Angiology
Angiologists specialise in the diagnosis, treatment and prevention of diseases of the vascular system. This includes the arteries, veins and lymphatic vessels. Their work is crucial for maintaining the health of the circulatory system and preventing vascular diseases, which can have serious consequences for the whole body. Key areas of focus in angiology include inflammatory and degenerative vascular diseases caused by wear and tear or ageing, such as peripheral arterial disease, thrombosis, varicose veins, lymphoedema and diabetic foot syndrome.
Heart attacks in women
The symptoms of a heart attack manifest themselves differently in women than in men. As a result, the danger is often not recognised in time.
Through the bloodstream with a fishhook
A team from the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology in Lausanne (EPFL) has developed a device that makes it possible to reach blood vessels with particularly complex shapes and extremely thin walls. The researchers hope that the system will, in future, enable the treatment of hard-to-reach brain tumours.
