Virologists are scientists who specialise primarily in the study of viruses and viral infections. Their aim is to gain a deeper understanding of the mechanisms of viral infections in order to develop new antiviral drugs and vaccines. Virology plays a crucial role in public health, particularly in combating epidemics and pandemics.
